The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes è una raccolta di dodici racconti di Arthur Conan Doyle , con il suo immaginario detective Sherlock Holmes . Fu pubblicato per la prima volta il 14 ottobre 1892; le singole storie erano state serializzate in* The Strand Magazine* tra il luglio 1891 e il giugno 1892. Le storie non sono in ordine cronologico e gli unici personaggi comuni a tutti e dodici sono Holmes e Dr. Watson . Le storie sono collegate in una narrazione in prima persona dal punto di vista di Watson.

Treasure Island is an adventure novel by Scottish author Robert Louis Stevenson, narrating a tale of “buccaneers and buried gold.” Its influence is enormous on popular perceptions of pirates, including such elements as treasure maps marked with an “X,” schooners, the Black Spot, tropical islands, and one-legged seamen bearing parrots on their shoulders.
Treasure Island was originally considered a coming-of-age story and is noted for its atmosphere, characters, and action. It is one of the most frequently dramatised of all novels. It was originally serialised in the children’s magazine Young Folks from 1881 through 1882 under the title Treasure Island, or the mutiny of the Hispaniola, credited to the pseudonym “Captain George North”. It was first published as a book on 14 November 1883.

The Scarlet Letter: A Romance, an 1850 novel, is a work of historical fiction written by American author Nathaniel Hawthorne. It is considered his “masterwork”.Set in 17th-century Puritan Massachusetts Bay Colony, during the years 1642 to 1649, it tells the story of Hester Prynne, who conceives a daughter through an affair and struggles to create a new life of repentance and dignity. As she struggles to raise her rambunctious daughter, Pearl, on her own, the father of her child is revealed and is shown to be experiencing severe guilt. Through the scorn and judgment of the citizens and Roger Chillingworth (Hester’s husband), the two decide to remain together. Throughout the book, Hawthorne explores themes of legalism, sin, and guilt.
